The pirate who got out.

In September 1695, Henry Every ambushed the Mughal treasure ship Ganj-i-Sawai, taking what may still be the largest single piracy haul in history. Then Every did what almost no other major pirate managed: he disappeared. No capture, no trial, no rope. His flag — a kerchiefed skull above crossed bones — is one of the few from this era actually documented in period accounts.
