The gentleman who chose the sea over everything he had.
Stede Bonnet was born in 1688 on Barbados. He inherited a 400-acre sugar plantation, married well, had four children, and owned ninety-four enslaved people. Then he bought a sloop, hired a crew at wages, and ran off to be a pirate. He was spectacularly bad at it. Blackbeard took his ship away from him. He was captured, escaped jail, was recaptured, wrote a letter begging for clemency, and was hanged on December 10, 1718. This mug is for anyone who's ever left a sure thing for an uncertain one.
